We have a passion for horses, and a passion for photography. I think it was inevitable that the two should mix! Kirk and I own and operate Washburn Photography from our beautiful hobby farm in the hills of Sogn Valley near Kenyon, Minnesota. We are the parents of two wonderful children and currently own four Morgan horses, and one Shetland pony.
I have owned and ridden horses all my life, from the days of riding my first pony bareback through Wisconsin fields, to showing horses at the regional and national level. I have a BS Degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, and a background in agricultural sales. Kirk has been a horse trainer and farrier, and has traveled extensively throughout the United States. He can usually be found at the photo table or shooting from the rail.
We love the ability to capture the energy and emotion of a moment, and present it in an image that tells a story. Sometimes the image is a powerful victory pass down the rail; the embodiment of accomplishment and pride. Sometimes the image is a young girl looking into her horse's eyes; what will the future bring to them? How will you remember these and other moments? They show us where we have been, where we are, and perhaps even where we are heading.
